"SINGAPORE BANANA".I stayed up the night before to read up more about the industry and yesterday morning, I did a mental rehearsal to prepare myself for my second policy review with another client. No doubt I was more calm and focused this time, my client was unfortunately a mandarin speaking customer.
.
Five years ago, I could barely speak more than two words in mandarin. Today, I could string a sentence with 75% of it in mandarin. But to be in this line, it's not just having a daily chit chat with the customer. In fact, I struggled a lot with the jargons such as the various accounts, investment instruments, etc.
.
To my friends, seeing me struggle with my second language can be quite entertaining and humorous. However to a customer, it's not professional and is in fact a barrier when attempting to connect and create a relationship with him/her.
.
So what did I learn today? A whole list of jargons in mandarin. Give this "Singapore Banana" some time to master it and I believe I'll be as eloquent as my colleagues. Hahaha...
